John joined Covanta in April 2015 to lead the Dublin Waste to Energy team. Prior to joining Covanta, John served as head of the Resource Recovery Unit at Bord na Mona, a semi-state company overseeing the commercial and domestic waste management business across seven sites in the Republic of Ireland. Previous to this, John held positions with Kingspan Environmental & Renewables as Divisional Operations Director and with Onyx Ireland Ltd. (Veolia Group) as Managing Director. He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Irish Waste Management Association.

Tom Eriksen
Tom Eriksen

Director of Operations

Tom brings more than 30 years of experience in the waste-to-energy industry to the Dublin Waste to Energy project. Previous to joining the Dublin team, Tom managed four different plants for Covanta, the last being a 1.1 million tonnes per annum facility in the United States. As Director of Operations for the Dublin facility, Tom is responsible for all aspects of facility operations and maintenance. The Dublin Waste to Energy facility is Tom’s fourth start-up, having been involved in the successful commissioning and operation of three other waste-to-energy plants. Tom is proud to lead what he believes is the most highly-educated and experienced staff ever recruited to start up and operate a waste-to-energy facility.

Kieran Mullins
Kieran Mullins

Business Manager

Kieran is responsible for business management of the Dublin Waste to Energy project. He has 18 years of experience in the waste industry. Prior to joining Covanta in 2015, he held several senior roles in the non-hazardous waste business within the Veolia Group, and led their hazardous waste business in Ireland for five years. Kieran has served as Director of the Irish Waste Management Association since 2005, and was its Chairman from 2013 to 2016. 

Donal Fanning
Donal Fanning

Operations Manager

Donal is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Dublin Waste to Energy facility. He has 12 years of experience in the construction, commissioning, maintenance and management of plants in Ireland and abroad. His industrial plant operations experience spans coal, peat and biomass. Prior to joining Covanta, Donal managed the Tynagh Power Plant in Galway.
